About the opportunity…

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payroll information. Duties include: filing and compiling all payroll reports and data; issuing Records of Employment (ROE); maintaining payroll files related to employees, reviewing attendance reports, preparing/processing reconciliations and withholding remittances and answering employee/management inquiries on payroll matters.  Specifically:

  • Accurate and timely end-to-end processing of weekly/bi-weekly/monthly payroll
  • Process off-cycle payments when needed for termination payouts and retroactive payments.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance to meet payroll/government regulations
  • Reconcile to the general ledger and remit group benefit payments on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare/process reconciliations and withholding remittances to Payroll vendors.
  • Answering all employee inquiries on payroll matters in a timely courteous and professional manner.
  • Processing all paperwork relating to employee files, leaves, terminations and retirements with ROEs. This includes processing benefit payments (pre-authorized payments) on a monthly basis for leaves.

 

About you…

Ideal candidates will have a strong background and proven experience in payroll administration, including:

  • 2 years of proven experience in accounting and payroll practices
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Accounting, Finance, and/or Payroll
  • proficiency in working with payroll and ERP systems (ie. CDK/Reynolds, Payworks, ADP)
  • comprehensive knowledge of the Federal and Provincial Tax Regulations
  • comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Employment Standards Act
  • experience working with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • ability to adapt to a changing environment and meet deadlines
  • ability to communicate professionally (verbally and written)
  • strong attention to detail, organized and strategic
  • ability to maintain professionalism
  • ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • self-motivated and driven with a passion for excellence in execution
  • a desire to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
